DO YOU KNOW YOUR VERTICAL RATIO?

If not, you should.

Your vertical ratio/body shape is the sister to horizontal ratio/body shape, and each plays an equally essential role in determining what shapes and garment styles suit you best.

Women who have a balanced body have their leg to torso length almost even and are proportionally shortest between their full bust and knees. Weight gain is apparent first within this area and is slow to show and slow to move. With age, and as their vertebrae shrink they can find their waistline appears to be rising, and tucking in becomes increasingly harder to pull off.

If this is what you look for:

Medium to waistbands skirts and pants,

Your vertical ratio/body shape is the sister to horizontal ratio/body shape, and each plays an equally essential role in determining what shapes and garment styles suit you best.

There are three vertical proportion types:

1. Long Legs / Short torso
2. Balanced body
3. Short Legs/ Long torso

Many women who have a long torso and short legs are often also short in statue; Japanese women are a good example and the reason why they wear a wide obi so well.

Women in this category commonly have a triangular horizontal body shape and weight gain becomes apparent first between the waist and knees.

If this is you, look for short to medium lengths for tops, sweaters, and jackets. Longer lengths require the assistance of high heels and slender pants and skirts and garments that define your waist.

Slender to straight leg pants work well, along with long length pants and short to medium length slimline shorts.

Skirts and dresses are best on or above the waist and at the knee or below the ankle bone unless heels are worn.
